Amersfoort

This Smart Graph shows an overview of air quality and environmental noise in the city of Amersfoort. Values were measured on five locations by Lichtmast Sensor Units (lsu), which are operated by Connected Worlds. The overview shows measurements taken at the 20th of November 2019. This data is of a research project of the Netherlands National Institute for Public Health and the Environment into the deployment of new sensor. It is not part of any legal or official monitoring activities. More information is available using the following link (Dutch).

Particulate matter, NO₂, and environmental noise can have detrimental effect on quality of life. These concepts are elaborated below including some thresholds values as an indication.

Particulate matter
Particulate matter is a form of air polution. Two values of particulate matter are measured: PM₁₀ and PM_2.5. These are particles with a diameter of 10 and 2.5 micrometer respectively. The year average threshold for PM₁₀ is 40 µg/m³. Furthermore the level should not exceed 40 µg/m³ on more than 35 days a year. For PM_2.5 the year average threshold is 25 µg/m³.

NO₂
Nitrogen oxide is a major indicator of air polution caused by traffic. The year average threshold is 40 µg/m³. Furthermore the hour average threshold of 200 µg/m³ should not be exceeded for more than 18 times a year.

Sound
Sounds can have a positive and a negative effect on quality of life. This dashboard shows environmental noise levels measures by the sensors. Sounds exceeding 80 dB can cause permanent damage to hearing. Noises starting from 42 dB can have a detrimental effect on health such as sleep disruptions and stress.
